Pure several liability
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-004046
A legal principle where each defendant in a lawsuit is responsible only for their own proportionate share of the plaintiff's damages, based on their individual degree of fault. Unlike joint and several liability, a plaintiff cannot recover the entire judgment from a single defendant if others are unable to pay. This system is often adopted in tort reform efforts.
