Joint defendant

One of two or more parties named in a single lawsuit as being collectively responsible for the alleged harm or wrongdoing. These defendants are sued together because their actions or omissions are intertwined in the cause of action. Their liability may be joint, several, or joint and several, depending on the jurisdiction and nature of the claim.
