Several liability

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-004509

A legal principle where each party responsible for an injury or debt is liable only for their proportionate share of the damages. A plaintiff cannot recover the entire amount from any single defendant, even if other defendants are insolvent. This contrasts with joint and several liability, where each defendant can be held responsible for the full amount.
