Comparative negligence

A legal doctrine that apportions fault and damages in a personal injury case based on the degree of negligence contributed by each party involved. If a plaintiff is found partially at fault, their recovery of damages is reduced proportionally. Most states have adopted either pure comparative negligence or modified comparative negligence systems.
