Profit
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003953
The financial gain obtained from a business transaction, investment, or enterprise, calculated as the excess of revenues over expenses. In a legal context, profit can be a measure of damages in contract disputes or a factor in determining business valuation. Net profit is the amount remaining after all costs, including taxes, have been deducted.
(property rights) A non-possessory interest in land that grants the holder the right to enter another's property and take something from it. This right allows for the extraction of natural resources, such as timber, minerals, or game. A profit a prendre is a common example, distinguishing it from an easement which only grants a right of use.
