Proffer

An offer of proof made by an attorney to a court, typically outside the presence of the jury, to show what evidence would have been presented if an objection had not been sustained. It allows the appellate court to review whether the exclusion of the evidence was prejudicial. A proffer can also refer to a defendant's offer to provide information to prosecutors in exchange for a reduced sentence.
