Statutory offer of settlement

A formal proposal made by one party to another in a lawsuit to resolve the dispute, often carrying specific legal consequences if rejected. These offers are governed by statute or court rules and can impact the recovery of attorney's fees or costs if the final judgment is less favorable than the offer. Rule 68 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure is an example.
