To resolve a legal dispute through a mutual agreement between the opposing parties without a full trial. This resolution, called a settlement, involves the plaintiff agreeing to drop the lawsuit in exchange for a specified action or payment from the defendant. A settlement agreement is a binding contract that, once executed, concludes the litigation and is enforceable by a court.
