Reaffirmation

An agreement made by a debtor in a bankruptcy proceeding to continue paying a specific debt that would otherwise be discharged. By reaffirming the debt, the debtor remains legally obligated to pay it, often to retain possession of collateral securing the loan, such as a vehicle. The agreement must be made before the bankruptcy discharge is granted and filed with the court to be legally binding.
