The place where an individual lives, either permanently or for an extended period. In legal terms, it is distinct from domicile, which signifies a person's permanent legal home where they intend to return. A person may have multiple residences but only one domicile, which determines legal rights and obligations such as voting, taxation, and jurisdiction.
