Security interest

A legal right granted by a debtor to a creditor over the debtor's property, which serves as collateral for a debt or obligation. This interest allows the creditor to seize and sell the collateral if the debtor defaults on the loan. Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) governs the creation, perfection, and enforcement of security interests in personal property.
