Any property, such as land, buildings, or an apartment, that is held by one person from another by any kind of title. In property law, the term broadly includes all forms of real property and certain intangible rights connected to it, like an easement. While it can describe any rented dwelling, the word is also more narrowly associated with a large, often run-down apartment building in an urban area.
