Third Amendment

A provision of the United States Constitution that prohibits the quartering of soldiers in private homes without the owner's consent in peacetime, and only in a manner prescribed by law in wartime. This amendment reflects a historical grievance against British practices before the American Revolution. It is rarely litigated in modern jurisprudence.
