Third party doctrine

A legal principle in United States constitutional law, particularly concerning the Fourth Amendment, which holds that individuals have no reasonable expectation of privacy in information voluntarily disclosed to third parties. This doctrine allows government access to such information without a warrant. It has been applied to records held by banks, telephone companies, and internet service providers.
