Expectation of privacy

A legal concept determining whether an individual has a reasonable belief that their activities or information are protected from government intrusion. This standard is central to Fourth Amendment analyses regarding searches and seizures. Courts assess both a subjective expectation by the individual and whether society objectively recognizes that expectation as reasonable.
