Treason

The crime of betraying one's country, especially by attempting to overthrow the government or by assisting its enemies in wartime. In the United States, the Constitution defines treason narrowly, requiring either an overt act of war against the U.S. or adherence to its enemies, giving them aid and comfort. Conviction requires the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act or a confession in open court.
