Multimodal transport

The carriage of goods by at least two different modes of transport, such as road, rail, sea, or air, from a place where the operator takes charge of them to a place designated for delivery. A single transport document, such as a multimodal bill of lading, covers the entire journey. The UNCTAD/ICC Rules for Multimodal Transport Documents are voluntary contractual rules, and the 1980 UN convention on the subject never entered into force.
