Supply chain demand sensing
Term · Logistics and supply chain · MLC-T-LOG-000212
The practice of using real-time or near-real-time data to develop a highly accurate, short-term forecast of customer demand. It analyzes daily data signals, such as point-of-sale information, weather patterns, and social media trends, to detect shifts in demand patterns much faster than traditional forecasting methods. This approach contrasts with demand forecasting, which relies on historical sales data and longer time horizons like weeks or months.
