Amphidrome
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003483
A point in an ocean or sea where the tidal range is effectively zero, around which tidal waves rotate. These points are central to amphidromic systems, which describe the propagation of tides in large basins. The rotation is counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere due to the Coriolis effect.
