Anticyclonic rotation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000152
The circulation of winds around a high-pressure system, characterized by a clockwise flow in the Northern Hemisphere and a counterclockwise flow in the Southern Hemisphere. This rotational pattern is driven by the pressure gradient force directed outward from the high-pressure center and deflected by the Coriolis effect. In these systems, air subsides and diverges at the surface, leading to stable atmospheric conditions and clear skies.
Rotation in the opposite sense as the Earth's rotation, i.e., clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere as would be seen from above. The opposite of cyclonic rotation.
