Revolving storm

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008564

A cyclonic weather system characterized by a closed, low-pressure center with winds rotating around it. This rotation is counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere due to the Coriolis effect. The term encompasses a variety of systems, including tropical cyclones (hurricanes, typhoons), extratropical cyclones, and polar lows, all defined by their rotational wind field.
