Bit rate

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003935

The number of bits of data transmitted or processed per unit of time, a fundamental measure of data transfer speed in digital communications. In meteorology, it determines how quickly observational data from instruments like weather satellites, radar, or automated weather stations can be sent to processing centers. Bit rate is measured in bits per second (bps), with common multiples being kilobits (kbps) or megabits (Mbps) per second.
