Cirrostratus
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000469
A high-level cloud type appearing as a transparent, whitish veil that often covers the entire sky, giving it a milky appearance. These clouds are composed of ice crystals and are thin enough to allow the sun or moon to be clearly visible through them. They frequently produce halo phenomena around the sun or moon, indicating the presence of ice crystals.
A cloud of a class characterized by a composition of ice crystals and often by the production of halo phenomena and appearing as a whitish and usually somewhat fibrous veil, often covering the whole sky and sometimes so thin as to be hardly discernible. These clouds are of high altitude (20,000-40,000 ft or 6000 -12,000 m).
