A major collaborative research project of the 1970s and 1980s, the name an acronym for Climate: Long-range Investigation, Mapping, and Prediction. The project's goal was to reconstruct the surface of the Earth during the last glacial maximum, approximately 18,000 years ago. CLIMAP produced global maps of sea surface temperatures, ice sheet extent, and land surface conditions for that period.
