Cloud height

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004428

The altitude of the base of a cloud or cloud layer above mean sea level or above the Earth's surface. It is a key parameter in aviation weather reports and is measured using instruments like a ceilometer, which uses a laser or other light source to determine the height of the cloud base. Cloud height is reported in feet or meters and is classified into low, middle, and high etages, such as cirrus clouds forming above 20,000 feet.
