Cloud ceiling

  1. The height of the lowest layer of clouds that covers more than half of the sky, reported in feet above ground level. This measurement is a key meteorological parameter for aviation, as it dictates minimum flight altitudes and visibility requirements. Cloud ceiling is determined by instruments like ceilometers or by human observation at airports.

  2. Same as Ceiling; the height of the cloud base for the lowest broken or overcast cloud layer.
