Variable ceiling

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009950

A condition where the height of the lowest cloud layer covering more than half of the sky fluctuates significantly over a short period or distance. This variability makes it challenging for aviation, as the ceiling height can change rapidly, affecting visibility and flight operations. It is often reported in aviation weather observations when the ceiling varies by more than 100 feet or 30 meters.
