Coastal front

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004467

A shallow, quasi-stationary atmospheric boundary that forms along a coastline, separating cold, dense air over land from warmer, moist air over the adjacent ocean. This front often develops due to differential heating and friction between land and sea, leading to convergence and uplift. Coastal fronts are frequently associated with localized precipitation, including snow or rain, especially in winter.
