Cold sector

The region of an extratropical cyclone occupied by the cold air mass, located behind the cold front and ahead of the warm front in the direction of the storm's movement. This area is characterized by falling temperatures, rising barometric pressure, and stratiform or cumuliform clouds with showers or snow. In the Northern Hemisphere, winds in the cold sector typically blow from the northwest, bringing colder and drier air.
