Trailing front

The cold front that trails away from the center of an extratropical cyclone, extending from the low toward the south or southwest in the Northern Hemisphere, with colder air behind it to the west and warmer air ahead of it to the east. It is the part of the frontal system left behind as the low moves on. Secondary lows sometimes develop along such a front.
