Cyclone family

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004827

A sequence of extratropical cyclones that develop and move along a frontal zone, often originating from a single parent low-pressure system. Each new cyclone in the family forms on the trailing cold front of the preceding one, propagating poleward and eastward. These systems are responsible for extended periods of unsettled weather across large geographical areas.
