Cyclone collector
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004826
A device used to remove particulate matter from an air or gas stream without the use of filters, through vortex separation. Gas laden with particulates enters the chamber, and centrifugal force throws the heavier particles against the outer wall, where they slide down into a hopper. These collectors are widely used in industrial applications to control air pollution and are also employed in some atmospheric sampling instruments to separate aerosols by size.
