Frontal wave

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005814

A disturbance that forms along a stationary or slow-moving atmospheric front, characterized by a wave-like deformation of the frontal boundary. This initial perturbation can develop into a frontal cyclone as warm air begins to flow poleward and cold air equatorward around a developing low-pressure center. It represents the incipient stage of cyclogenesis.
