Frontal precipitation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005808

Precipitation that results from the lifting and cooling of air along an atmospheric front. This lifting mechanism, whether warm air rising over a cold air mass or cold air forcing warm air upwards, leads to condensation and cloud formation. Frontal precipitation can range from light, widespread rain or snow with warm fronts to intense, showery precipitation with cold fronts.
