Frontal lifting

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005805

The process by which a warmer, less dense air mass is forced to rise over a colder, more dense air mass along an atmospheric front. This upward motion cools the rising air, leading to condensation, cloud formation, and precipitation. It is a primary mechanism for generating weather along both warm and cold fronts.
