Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008433

The portion of an extratropical cyclone, or low-pressure system, located to the west of its center in the Northern Hemisphere. This region is characterized by the arrival of a cold front, bringing a sharp drop in temperature, a wind shift to a northerly or northwesterly direction, and clearing skies.
