Current ellipse
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004810
A graphical representation of the oscillatory motion of tidal currents over a complete tidal cycle at a specific location. As the current vector changes in both speed and direction, its tip traces an elliptical path over time. The major and minor axes of the ellipse indicate the principal directions and magnitudes of the tidal flow.
