Reversing current
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008562
A tidal current that flows alternately in approximately opposite directions, with a period of slack water at each reversal of direction. These currents typically occur in restricted channels, straits, and rivers where the direction of flow is confined. A reversing current is distinguished from a rotary current, which flows continuously while changing direction through 360 degrees during a tidal period.
