Rotary current
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008613
An ocean current that changes direction continuously through 360 degrees over a tidal cycle, forming an elliptical or circular path. This motion is typically observed in open ocean areas where tidal forces are not constrained by topography. The direction of rotation, either clockwise or counter-clockwise, depends on the hemisphere and the specific tidal constituents.
