Monsoon current

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007400

A large-scale, seasonally reversing wind system that transports moist air from an ocean to a continent in summer and dry air from the continent to the ocean in winter. These currents are driven by the differential heating of land and sea surfaces throughout the year. The Somali Current in the Indian Ocean is a prominent example of an ocean current that reverses direction in response to the monsoon winds.
