Monsoon depression

A low-pressure system that forms over the Bay of Bengal or the Arabian Sea during the summer monsoon season. These systems typically move westward or northwestward, bringing widespread heavy rainfall and strong winds to the Indian subcontinent. They are a major source of precipitation for agriculture in the region.
