Cyclolysis

The process of weakening or dissipation of a cyclone. This occurs when the atmospheric conditions that sustain the cyclonic circulation, such as a strong temperature gradient or upper-level divergence, diminish or disappear. Cyclolysis can also be induced by a cyclone moving over unfavorable terrain or colder ocean waters.
