Dropsonde observation

The collection of atmospheric data obtained from a dropsonde as it falls through the air. This observation provides a vertical profile of temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind from the deployment altitude down to the surface. Such data are assimilated into numerical weather prediction models to refine forecasts.
