Freezing-level chart

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005774

A meteorological chart that depicts the altitude of the 0 degrees Celsius isotherm across a geographical area. These charts are derived from atmospheric soundings and numerical weather prediction models. They are primarily used by aviators to identify regions where aircraft icing is a potential hazard, as supercooled water droplets are prevalent near this level.
