Supercooled cloud

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009400

A cloud composed of liquid water droplets that remain in a liquid state even when their temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius. These droplets require ice nuclei to freeze, which are often scarce in the atmosphere at temperatures just below freezing. Supercooled clouds are a common occurrence in the upper parts of cumulus clouds and can lead to aircraft icing.
