Freezing fog
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001073
Fog composed of supercooled water droplets that freeze upon contact with exposed objects, forming rime ice. This occurs when air temperature is at or below 0 degrees Celsius and the fog is present. Freezing fog can significantly reduce visibility and lead to hazardous driving conditions due to ice accumulation on surfaces and aircraft.
A fog the droplets of which freeze upon contact with exposed objects and form a coating of rime and/or glaze.
