Icing level

The altitude or range of altitudes within the atmosphere where conditions are conducive to the formation of ice on aircraft surfaces. This level is characterized by the presence of supercooled liquid water droplets and air temperatures at or below freezing. Pilots use weather forecasts and in-flight observations to identify and avoid these hazardous flight conditions.
