Slush icing

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008951

The accumulation of a semi-liquid mixture of snow and water on aircraft surfaces, particularly on runways and taxiways, which can impede takeoff and landing operations. This type of icing occurs when temperatures are near freezing and precipitation is a mix of rain and snow, or when snow is melting. It can significantly increase drag and reduce lift for aircraft.
