Brine slush
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004041
Slush that cannot quite turn to ice because of its high salt content, found most often between young sea ice and a fluffy cover of recent snow. It forms when a fall of snow melts the salt crust on the ice and leaves a layer of brine beneath the snow. A salt crust starts to form on young ice once the ice is about 2 inches thick.
