Snow crust

A hardened layer of snow on the surface of a snowpack, formed by melting and refreezing, wind compaction, or surface hoar development. These crusts can vary in thickness and strength, influencing snowpack stability and animal movement. A common type is a sun crust, formed by solar radiation.
